The Islamic Society of Cumberland acknowledges that there are various methods to determine the Islamic dates, however the Islamic Society of Cumberland adheres to the traditional method practiced and promoted by the Prophet Mohammad (pbuh), Sahabah (ra) and the pious predecessors of sighting the crescent locally to commence Islamic months including Ramadan. Astronomical Calculations can be utilized to aid in the process, however the decision of commencing the Islamic months is to be conducted through sighting of the crescent.
